Ron Cenfetelli, a member of the MIS faculty, has been awarded by the journal MIS Quarterly(MISQ).

Ron has been asked to become an associate editor of the journal and he also won the MISQ Best Reviewer of the Years(2011) award.

MISQ is one of the two most prestigious MIS journals and this invitation and award is a clear recognition of Ron’s contribution to the MIS academic community.

The MIS Division at the Sauder School of Business is pleased to announce a “Meet and Greet” Event for all students at the Sauder School who study in information technology related Programs. This includes undergraduate students in the MIS and BTM (Business Technology Management) Option, in the BUCS (Business – Computer Science ) Option, and Full and Part time MBA students who have a special link with or interest in IT and BTM.

The event is organized in cooperation with the MIS Advisory and MIS Alumni groups.

Objectives of the event

(1) To provide Sauder students in IT-related programs (including entering students) with an opportunity to meet and network with people from the business community at all levels and with other students in these programs.

(2) To provide the business community with an opportunity to obtain a first-hand impression of our students. (3) To announce several initiatives the MIS Division has embarked on. In particular:

- A change in orientation and of name of our programs to Business Technology Management (BTM). This is linked to recognition from CCICT – Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow’s ICT Skills <http://ccict.ca/>*.

- A new Scholarships program for undergraduate students in the BTM and BUCS Options generously supported by Telus.

- A Collaborative Research Program (CRP) – an initiative of the Sauder BTM Alumni Committee intended to engage MBA students in solving “real world” needs in the business community.

- The introduction of a Mentorship Program for third and fourth year undergraduate students.

- The launching of a new innovative Cap-stone Project course in which students will engage in a project involving an innovative application of IT in a realistic setting (in cooperation with the Advisory and Alumni groups).

 In its 2010 annual report the Business Career Centre listed monthly salaries for Co-Op students.  

The average salary for BUCS Co-Op students was the highest (and the only one above $3,000) – $3,150 compared to the overall average of about $2760.

Sauder MIS Faculty and Graduate Student Fall Gathering – Sep 3, 2010.

The MIS Division held our 2010 Fall gathering for faculty and graduate students at the beautiful home of our Division Chair – Dr Yair Wand. It was also to thank our former Divisional Assistant, Julie Nichols (who retired recently) for her many years of contribution and to congratulate Hasan Cavusoglu on his being granted tenure recently.

Sauder MIS Alumni Group Meeting August 20, 2010.

The MIS Division held our third alumni meeting at AMBiT Consulting. First two meetings were hosted by Accenture and Ernst & Young respectively.

MIS Division Retreat at MBA House (Oct 30, 2009).

Izak Benbasat received the first annual Distinguished Fellow Award from INFORMS Information System Society. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding intellectual contributions to the Information Systems discipline, and will be presented at the annual Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST) in San Diego mid-October.

A recent study ranked the UBC MIS Division to be the most prolific institution for research on human computer interaction (HCI) from 1990-2008. Professor Izak Benbasat was ranked the most prolific HCI researcher during this period. Professors Burton-Jones and Cenfetellialso made the top 16 researchers in 2003-2008.

A recent article in the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (Volume 24, 2009) by Clark, Warren, and Au, ranks Professor Izak Benbasat and the UBC MIS division among the top in the world. During 2003-2007, Professor Benbasat published more papers in the top three MIS journals (MISQ, ISR, JMIS) than any other researcher in the world. The UBC MIS division also has the third highest publication record in these three journals, with the highest average publication rate per faculty member.

January 2009

A recent analysis by the editor-in-chief of MIS Quarterly (MISQ), one of the top two MIS research journals, has shown that Professor Izak Benbasat is the all time leading publisher in the journal since its inception in 1977.
